Old Things Becoming New

I  LOVE to take old things and make them new again. I don’t have much time to do so but this one I just couldn’t pass up.

I ran into my local Goodwill store to buy some coffee table books for an upcoming vacant home staging job and on my way back to the book section look what I found!

Old Dirty Chair

A classic chair. In great shape and very sturdy. Sticker price…….$2.99!

I grabbed that chair so fast I created a breeze.

A couple days later I got going on my project. I took out the 4 screws  holding the seat on,

Seat Cushion Off

then I primed the wood with Kilz Block Out Primer (because I refuse to sand anything). I hate to sand!  Then, I took some leftover paint I had from painting an Antique Hutch (Dorian Gray by Sherwin Williams) and within a short period of time the hardest part was done.

Bolts of FabricWell, not the hardest. The most difficult task was limiting the fabric to recover the chair seat. I LOVE fabric. Love it. So of course when I ran into JoAnn Fabrics I could not make up my mind on a fabric. Too many choices, so many great looks. It took me longer to pick out the fabric then to prime and paint the chair! LOL

But I finally narrowed it down to two and bought both. I am going to switch them out for different looks when I get tired of one.

A few staples to secure the new fabric right over the old, put the 4 screws back in to hold the seat down and

Drum Roll Please……

My new chair!! How cute is that!

The chair $2.99. The fabric $6.79. The chair “PRICELESS”.

It’s first use, a chair for a child’s “craft and study nook” at a luxury new construction home I staged. This chair can be used so many places.

So don’t overlook those past treasures. Make them new again!

Ideas and Inspiration – How to Think Outside the Box with a Flea Market Find (Home Staging and Redesign Minneapolis, MN)

Ideas and Inspiration – How to Think Outside the Box with a Flea Market Find. Home Staging and Redesign Minneapolis, MN.

I love flea market finds. First because they are cheap.

Second because they are unique and different.

The best part is to find a way to use them for something other than what they were created for and you will really have a unique piece.

You may remember my post on “How To Create an Outdoor Living Space”. I mentioned that I used an old table from a flea market to add character to the space.

Well, I found this old wood medicine type cabinet at an outdoor flea market. At the time I had no idea what I would do with it. It was just interesting.

So after pondering it for the winter this idea popped into my head when I was planting flowers this weekend.

Why does it have to be vertical on a wall with it’s door closed? Why not flat and it’s door open?

So here is what I came up with.

What do you think? Does your brain work like mine? Okay…don’t answer that!

If you look back at How to Create an Outdoor Living Space” you will also see this old barrel from a flea market sitting on top of the flea market table so check it out.
