Have Yourself a Merry ‘Little’ Christmas

Christmas morning is just over a week away.  For many of us Christmas morning as kids was so magical. Waking up perhaps to all the toys left by Santa. The smells of amazing food to be eaten soon.

Lately the song “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” has been playing over and over in my head yet I don’t know much more of the lyrics then the opening line. So I looked them up….

“Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on your troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yuletide gay
From now on your troubles will be miles away

Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more

Through the years we all will be together
If the fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest place

So have yourself a merry little Christmas

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
So have yourself a merry little Christmas.”

Such a relaxing and feel good song, yet do our troubles ever really go away? Sometimes the fates are that we aren’t able to gather together anymore. Yet in the turmoil and/or grief I believe we can find some calm and maybe that is what the song was getting at.

What I love is the word ‘little’. Christmas isn’t the big hupla for me that it used to be. I don’t spend three days decorating with twenty-seven bins of decorations. My decorations are now simple yet meaningful.

I still appreciate people who do go all out at Christmas but it seems each year my decorations get smaller and smaller in amount and I just soak up the season with relaxation. For me that means reading, knitting and Hallmark movies. 🙂

My husband and I don’t have kids, both of us have lost our parents, nieces and nephews are grown and have their own lives. Christmas now is enjoying each other, volunteering for those less fortunate, spending quiet dinners with close friends, church and lots of music.

It is so much more relaxed and I am okay with that. I cherish the ‘olden days’ of hectic shopping,  hours of baking, early mornings ripping into gifts and late nights of ‘waiting’ for Santa.

But, I am liking the word ‘LITTLE’. It is a calming word to me and one that makes me smile. So my wish for you this Christmas season is that wherever you are in your Christmas season journey of life, that you can enjoy the moments and breath in all your experiences.

Have a very Merry ‘Little’ and Blessed Christmas.

Did You Make A New Year’s Resolutions? Here is My Non-Resolution. May It Inspire You….

So, did you make any New Year’s resolutions? If so how are they going?

If not….why not?

I started out my year by being on vacation for 12 days and now I am ready to kick it in gear. Both personally and business wise.

I am not a New Year’s Resolution kind of gal. It just never seemed to work in the past and I gave it up. Now…I do have a couple goals for the year. That’s different right?

Ya, ya, ya…..I want to lose weight. That has been a goal since I was 16. It just never ends. But I am taking on a new one this year…

Get My Home Organized!!

There, I said it and it is out there for all the world to see. I am not going to pressure myself too hard so I am setting my goal at one ‘thing’ or ‘place’ cleared out or organized a month.

And I am not even selling my house!! LOL

My January project is going to be the large cabinet pantry in my kitchen.

My February project is going to be the walk in pantry. Lord help me. Second thought it is going to be the food section of the walk in pantry in February and the pots and pans section in March. Whew…that’s better.

So that’s it. Each month I am selecting a place or area in my home to dig in! I am so excited! I can do this. It is only 1 thing a month. I can handle it.

I will keep you posted along the way to see how I am doing. So you can cheer me on is more like it!!

Wish me luck. And may it inspire you to tackle that ugly job you have been putting off!

The Summer That Wasn’t??

I really am thinking this Summer didn’t happen. Did I blink and it was gone? June was 11 days long, July about 7 days long and August about 3 days long. No really!

Summer

I heard told that the older we get the faster time goes and I truly believe that. But at this rate I will be 90 in a couple months.

Is it just my age making things go faster or was it other things?

First we started with a really cold, gray, gloomy and rainy June. It was the end of June before we really spent any time outside here in Minneapolis.

Then there was work. Work, work and more work. All good and it is great to be busy but the days were jammed pack from early morning to late at night.

Too much work

Then my Mom’s health has been declining so I have made many trips to Fargo, lost sleep worrying and spent hours trying to manage her care from a distance.

I didn’t get to the outdoor restaurants I normally get to.

I didn’t get to the outdoor pool at my health club as much as I wanted to.

I want the summer to start over!!

So what about you? Did your summer actually happen?

If so I hope it was a good one. If not why did it go so fast for you?
